Join us in recapping an exciting week of community building! From revitalizing Lincoln Street Art Park with Ford volunteers to celebrating the re-grand opening of Lincoln Street Art Park, and the grand unveiling of Dreamtroit, these events brought together passionate individuals dedicated to art, sustainability, and Detroit's future.
We kicked off the excitement on September 12 with a volunteer event that brought together passionate Ford volunteers and our team at Green Living Science. Together, we planted flowers, spread mulch, and cleaned up the park, revitalizing the space for the community. It was a productive day that showed the power of teamwork in making Detroit’s green spaces more beautiful and sustainable.
We extend our sincere thanks to our partners: Henry Ford Health, Mercedes Benz Financial Services, the Gilbert Family Foundation, Ally, the Ford Foundation, Michigan Business, Energy Sciences, and Progressive AE, for making this event possible.
Next, on September 14, we celebrated the Re-Grand Opening of the Lincoln Street Art Park. This vibrant event saw GLS members, friends, family, and Our Backyard Detroit Park Champions come together for an afternoon filled with pizza, painting, sustainable crafts, and tours of the park. The celebration highlighted the park’s transformation and its role as a creative hub for art and sustainability. It was an afternoon of fun and community connection.
Finally, on September 16, we were honored to participate in the Dreamtroit Grand Opening, a celebration of art, community, and revitalization. Mayor Mike Duggan delivered an inspiring speech, emphasizing the significance of Dreamtroit for Detroit’s creative future and how projects like this one are crucial for the city’s growth. He praised the collaboration between the city, artists, and community organizations, including Green Living Science, for making this dream a reality. The event highlighted the power of collective effort in transforming neighborhoods and providing spaces where art and sustainability can flourish.
One of our own OBD Park Champions, Walter Bailey, also spoke about the importance of Dreamtroit for his art and the ongoing work of GLS in fostering creativity and sustainability throughout Detroit. For more details about this inspiring event, check out the city’s official announcement here.
Thank you to everyone who joined us for this incredible week of events—we look forward to continuing to build a brighter, greener Detroit together!
