Plastic Free July is Over - Now What?

Plastic Free July called for consumers and businesses alike to make an effort to reduce their plastic purchases and waste. Some refused to purchase new straws while others only used paper bags instead of plastic. Now that it’s over, how’d you do?

No matter how much or how little you participated, both businesses and consumers perceive challenges. Even though it may have been frustrating at times, we’re here to talk about 3 tips to overcoming challenges so you can continue your plastic free journey.

Overcome Expensiveness

One of the biggest barriers we see when working with businesses comes down to the cheap price of plastic and styrofoam no one wants to give up. We totally understand, but may have a few ways we can help!

  • Incorporate packaging pricing into the overall price, and offer discounts for customers who bring in reusables.

  • Make a small investment in something reusable. While you may be making investments in compostable or paper products, spend a little on reusable glassware or mugs- you will offset the price in just a few uses!

Overcome Compromising Product Quality

  • We’ve seen our fair share of melted corn starch cups that aren’t meant for hot liquids, so make sure to do your research, request samples and read reviews before buying bioplastics! Check out Greensafe, our local compostable food package store.

Overcome Trends
